VGR (VIE Game Ratings) rates games on a scale of 1 to 5. The lower the score is, the more suitable it is to a younger audience. The higher the number is, the more it's suited to a more mature audience.

VGR Rating RU:

The RU (Rating Undecided) rating isn't used to rate complete titles, however this rating may make an appearance in early-development trailers or posters when a title has not been developed enough yet to receive a predicted or finalised rating. When shown, there will usually be a bit of information beside the VGR Index icon stating what the title is likely to contain. For example, next to the RU rating, there may be text saying "May contain violent imagery".

VGR Rating 1:

Games rated 1 must follow these requirements:

• No violent, graphic, shocking, or sexual imagery / sounds

• No violent, graphic, or sexual concepts: ie animal cruelty, murder, prostitution, alcoholism, drugs, v/g/s innuendoes, or suggestive remarks

• No reference to medical conditions: ie depression, insanity, other mental illness

• No reference to global political issues: ie war, political ideologies, political figures, et cetera

• General age rating: 4+

VGR Rating 2:

Games rated 2 must follow these requirements:

• Mild graphic content ie: mild swear words for expression, weaponry for graphical use only

• No violent, shocking, or sexual imagery / sounds

• Unlikely to contain certain mild references to violent, graphic, or sexual concepts: ie animal cruelty, murder, prostitution, alcoholism, drugs, v/g/s innuendoes, or suggestive remarks, illustrative in an appropriate manner

• No reference to medical conditions: ie depression, insanity, other mental illness

• No reference to global political issues: ie war, political ideologies, political figures, et cetera

• General age rating: 9+

VGR Rating 3:

Games rated 3 must follow these requirements:

• Contains graphic content ie: swear words for expression or mild offense, weaponry for graphical and aural purposes

• May contain light-to-moderate violent, shocking, or sexual imagery / sounds

• May contain violent, graphic, or sexual concepts: ie animal cruelty, murder, prostitution, alcoholism, drugs, v/g/s innuendoes, or suggestive remarks

• May reference medical conditions: ie depression, insanity, other mental illness

• May reference global political issues ie war, political ideologies, political figures, et cetera, including certain controversial political views

• General age rating: 14+ 

VGR Rating 4:

Games rated 4 must follow these requirements:

• Contains graphic content ie: swear words for expression or offense for serious or as hyperbole, weaponry for graphical, aural, and practical purposes, and gore

• May contain moderate-to-strong violent, shocking, or sexual imagery / sounds, including light-to-moderate gore, and mild nudity or suggestive commentary

• May contain violent, graphic, or sexual concepts: ie animal cruelty, murder, prostitution, alcoholism, drugs, v/g/s innuendoes, or suggestive remarks

• May reference medical conditions: ie depression, insanity, other mental illness

• May reference global political issues ie war, political ideologies, political figures, et cetera

• May reference major world events or controversial views

• General age rating: 16+ 

VGR Rating 5:

Games rated 5 must follow these requirements:

• Contains graphic content ie: swear words for expression or offense for serious or as hyperbole, weaponry for graphical, aural, and practical purposes, gore, and nudity / suggestive commentary

• May contain strong violent, shocking, or sexual imagery / sounds and gore

• May contain violent, graphic, or sexual concepts: ie animal cruelty, murder, prostitution, alcoholism, drugs, v/g/s innuendoes, or suggestive remarks

• May reference medical conditions: ie depression, insanity, other mental illness

• May reference global political issues ie war, political ideologies, political figures, et cetera

• May reference major world events or controversial views

• General age rating: 18+ 

VGR 5 rated titles typically have the same requirements as VGR 4 but the themes are a lot more severe, so for example instead of having mild nudity, there's full nudity, or if there's large quanitities of the themes, so for example instead of just a bit of blood and gore here or there that may pass as VGR 4, but there's a lot of blood and gore everywhere then even if it doesn't exactly meet the requirements of VGR 5, it will still be rated VGR 5.
