STATEMENT: EBJB Games and The VIE Project • Posted by EBJB Games • 09/08/2024
It may be evident to some of you that The VIE Project is not in a good place at the moment. Those at The VIE Project have essentially lost all motivation and their want to create software and work any longer, and less staff are as passionate as they were after The VIE Project's rebrand in November 2022. As we are acquired by The VIE Project, their situation also affects us directly.
Assuming that the situation won't improve, it is very likely that, just like in 2020, The VIE Project will shut down indefinitely again in the next year or so. They barely even touch VIE-DOS anymore, even potentially getting rid of it for good, they can't seem to get VIE Internet released and stay available even after half a decade - it being the reason why The VIE Project was founded in the first place, and their Viescros department is also lacking in dedicated staff, and ever since they've shifted almost all of their focus onto EBJB Games after their acquisition of EBJB Games in November of 2023, it has only gotten worse for them. The company is falling apart internally and it's only a matter of time until it gets to us. We've had some discussions with superiors at The VIE Project and we have devised a plan for us in the event that they do shut down.
Once The VIE Project shuts down, EBJB Games will no longer be under their authority and we will become an independent group once again. This also means that we will no longer be officially partnered with any of The VIE Project's partnered companies unless a partnership is agreed on with EBJB Games directly, but at the moment we aren't looking for any partners.
The VIE Project shutting down will also mean that this domain will become inactive, meaning that we will have to move to a new domain, likely to our original domain linked at "tiny.cc/ebjb", or a new domain "ebjb.games", with the "tiny.cc/ebjb" link serving as a redirect to the new website. As our titles and files are stored on The VIE Project's servers and accounts, we will have to transfer everything, which means that it is likely that download links will be temporarily down as we move all of our content to our own servers, and older links may no longer be functional.
Finally, The VIE Project shutting down would mean that we will receive full rights to the VIE Game Rating (VGR) Index, currently owned by The VIE Project, and we are allowed to use it because we are affiliated with them. We aren't totally happy with the current way the VGR Index works, so it is likely that once this happens, the VGR Index may see a refresh and older titles will have to be re-rated.
These are the plans we have set up with superiors at The VIE Project in the very unfortunate event that they do shut down, and even if they make a comeback once again, like they did in 2022, it will likely be for different reasons entirely and we will most likely have no affiliation with them.
