STATEMENT: macOS Support • Posted by EBJB Games • 17/02/2024
For every EBJB Games title published, we would release three different builds - one for Windows, one for macOS, and one for chromeOS.
Today, we have decided that moving forward, our future titles will no longer have their own macOS builds.
We have decided to make this change because of the numerous issues, mainly graphical, that are present on the macOS builds of our titles. Our titles are programmed on Windows® 11 machines, meaning that porting titles to macOS may result in unforeseen problems such as sprites being scaled incorrectly. Although most of these issues are graphical and does not seem to have a significant impact on gameplay, we want to ensure that everyone who plays our titles have just as good of an experience as anyone else, and that what they experience is what we want them to experience.
On top of this, our team at the moment consists of five dedicated people, none of which have constant access to a macOS device that can run our titles. This means that customer support for macOS is very limited, meaning that any major issues that macOS users face will likely remain unresolved by our customer support team. This also means that prior to publishing our titles, we cannot test out our builds on macOS.
Due to these circumstances that are largely out of our control, this is why we have decided to drop support for macOS. Any current titles that have macOS builds will remain (Pigeon Puller and Five Faizul Fridays), however any titles coming out in the future will only be made for Windows and chromeOS.
However we do not want anyone to miss out on any of our future titles. So if you do use a macOS device but you still want to play our titles, that is not going to be a problem at all. You can still play our titles on your macOS device by simply downloading the chromeOS build. Because the chromeOS build consists of just one HTML file, you will be able to download the file and run it in your browser. Technically this also works for Windows, however we advise that Windows users download the Windows builds of our titles instead of the chromeOS builds, as they are made on Windows and so to avoid any potential issues.
This change will remain indefinitely. We are actively planning to change the engine we use to create our titles by 2026, meaning that by then, it is likely that these issues will no longer be present and so the macOS builds may return in the near future.
