VGR (VIE Game Ratings) rates games on a scale of 1 to 5. Lower scores are suitable for younger audiences; higher scores indicate content intended for more mature players.

VGR Rating RU:

The RU (Rating Undecided) rating isn't used to rate complete titles, however this rating may make an appearance in early-development trailers or posters when a title has not been developed enough yet to receive a predicted or finalised rating. When shown, there will usually be a bit of information beside the VGR Index icon stating what the title is likely to contain. For example, next to the RU rating, there may be text saying "May contain violent imagery".

VGR Rating 1:

Suggested Age Rating: 4+

• No violent, graphic, shocking, or sexual imagery or sounds

• No references to:

  • Animal cruelty

  • Murder

  • Drugs & Alcohol

  • Prostitution

  • Suggestive dialogue or innuendo

  • Mental health or medical conditions

  • War, politics, or controversial world issues

VGR Rating 2:

Suggested Age Rating: 9+

• May include mild coarse language and non-violent weapons (stylised or decorative)

• No disturbing or sexual imagery or sounds

• Unlikely to reference:

  • Mature themes (any inclusion must be abstract or handled sensitively)

  • Mental illness or political issues

VGR Rating 3:

Suggested Age Rating: 14+

• May include moderate language, stylised violence, or weapons with sound effects

• Light-to-moderate violent, shocking, or sexual imagery or sounds

• May reference:

  • Animal cruelty 

  • Suggestive themes or innuendo

  • Mental illness

  • War, politics, and controversial world issues

VGR Rating 4:

Suggested Age Rating: 16+

• Contains stronger language, weapons with practical use, and mild-to-moderate gore

• May include:

  • Moderate-to-strong violent, shocking, or sexual imagery or sounds

  • Partial nudity or suggestive dialogue

  • Frequent references to mature themes such as drug use, alcoholism, or death

  • Discussions or depictions of mental illness

  • Political ideologies, world events, or controversial beliefs

VGR Rating 5:

Suggested Age Rating: 18+

• May include strong or explicit violence, gore, or sexual imagery

• May include full nudity or highly suggestive content

• May include heavy or repeated themes of murder, abuse, drug use, or cruelty

• May include frequent discussion of political, medical, or psychological topics.
